Our Building

Sanctuary and Surlow Hall

At Emanu-El, our spaces are designed for the moments that matter most. Whether you’re here for a quiet service or a milestone celebration, you’ll find a home that is as modern as it is meaningful.

  • Our Sanctuary – A warm, light-filled space that hosts our community for worship and life cycle events. Designed by Phillip Katz and featuring artwork by Tobi Kahn, the sanctuary blends artistic legacy with state-of-the-art sound to ensure every voice is heard.
  • Flexible Gathering – For major ceremonies, our Sanctuary expands to offer a shared experience for our entire congregation.
  • Surlow Hall – Perfect for celebrations and community gatherings, this versatile space comfortably accommodates large events, complete with a dance floor. When it’s not the center of a party, it serves as a vibrant hub for our religious school and educational programs.

From the smallest prayer to the largest celebration, these spaces are where our sacred traditions meet the energy of today

Catering and Kitchen Facilities

Whether you are hosting a festive community dinner or a private family celebration, our modern catering kitchen is built to handle it all.

  • Heart of the Community – Our kitchen is a place where we come together to connect. Whether we are baking for those who are ill, cooking for neighbors in need, or preparing a feast to celebrate a holiday or joyous milestone, working side-by-side is how we truly build our Emanu-El family.
  • Full-Service Capability – Our kitchen is fully equipped for everything from professional buffet service to on-site cooking for social events and school programs.
  • Simple & Welcoming – We make hosting easy by offering rentals for all your essentials – including table linens, ceramic plates, glassware, and silverware.
  • A Space for Every Moment – These facilities support the everyday connections that make Emanu-El home, from shared school snacks to major congregational gatherings.

We’re here to help you create a meaningful experience where the focus remains exactly where it should be: on the people around the table

Other Multi-Use Areas

The building provides a variety of pre-function and small function spaces, including the lounge, the expansion space between the Sanctuary and Surlow Hall, the cardo/corridor outside of the Sanctuary and Surlow Hall, and the entry coming into the building from the covered driveway. These spaces support gathering for group activities of varying sizes.

Accessibility

We work hard to ensure that everyone who enters our building feels welcome and included. Our entrances are wheelchair and walker accessible, and accessible parking is available nearby. A gender-neutral and family restroom is located on the first floor, and all restrooms are equipped with changing tables.

During services, we offer hearing assistive devices, large-print prayer books, and closed-captioning. Quiet spaces and child-friendly areas are also available so that individuals and families can participate in ways that work best for them. Please contact our office if you have ideas or questions about accessibility in our community.

Thinking Green

We are committed to being as environmentally conscious as possible.

  • The facility includes a “green” HVAC ice storage system to efficiently control and regulate interior temperature.
  • There are also operable windows, a “green roof” over the covered entrance to the building, and natural materials.
  • We use compostable dinnerware and limit this in favor of reusable dinnerware.
We use part of our land for food production through our Salinsky Garden.
