On June 30, 1933, Rabbi Joseph Baron called a meeting of some dedicated men of our congregation. Together, they formed the Brotherhood of Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun. Its purpose was to serve as a service arm of the synagogue dedicated to further development of Reform Judaism. The constitution was adopted and the first Officers and Directors were elected. Ninety-three years later, we remain committed to that purpose recognizing much has changed in our long history, but so much remains the same.
Our Purpose as written in Article I of the current Bylaws states: “Temple Brotherhood exists to exemplify Jewish values by engaging and giving back for the greater good of our congregation and community through fellowship, fundraising, programming and volunteerism.” Consistent with that Purpose, we had an outstanding year providing an array of donations and programming that benefited primarily our congregation, but included other Jewish and secular communities. Below is a list of those activities which you can read about.
We are always looking for new members and volunteers. If you wish to become more active, please contact President Mark Holland at or (414) 736-0696.

During the past two years, Temple Brotherhood made the following major donations to our congregation and community. Many other donations were made during those years.
Underwriting congregation lunches, dinners, Onegs, ice cream socials including the Community Picnic and Purim Carnival. Veterans Shabbat Service, Live Animal Program, Deli Dinner, Lox Box, Challah Giveaway and Chanukah Bakery Box, Sporting Events (Bucks, Brewers, Chinooks and Wave outings) and the Family MIniature Golf Outing.
Temple Brotherhood has published the CEEBJ Directory for 22 years, which has always been our primary fundraiser. The Directory 2022- 5782 has been completed for another year and we are very excited to report that we raised more money than ever before. The gross revenue was $21,613. Subtracting the expenses and assuming all of the advertisers, Benefactor and Patron commitments are received, the net profit will be $16,683! We are especially proud that 301 families agreed to be a Benefactor or Patron, which represent 60% participation from our families! We are always looking for volunteers to help us create the Directory. Please contact Mark Holland at: or 414-736-0696 or Dan Wilkinson at: or 262-955-3775.
Summer Camp Scholarships are available for families with children up to the twelfth grade. The Michael Fefferman Campership Fund awards scholarships to accredited Jewish summer camps not affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), like Camp Interlaken. A restricted number of scholarships will be awarded because of limited funds. For more scholarship information, please contact Rabbi Jessica Barolsky at or call the synagogue office at (414) 228-7545.
Temple Brotherhood organizes annually a Veterans Shabbat. This service has included reaching out to members of our congregation requesting they submit military biographies of their family members or themselves.
That number now totals 85 biographies from the Civil War, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, along with those persons who served during peacetime. Some of the biographies are short, while others are lengthy. Many are truly compelling. But no matter the military experience, we honor all those who served.
The historical breath of Congregation Emanu-B’ne Jeshurun really begins in 1856. Spend some time to read these compelling and fascinating biographies and you will experience a part of our legacy.
Check out our new Display Case located in the south cardo adjacent to the synagogue office and across from the coat room. This is where you will find updated activity information.
