At Emanu-El, we believe that our community thrives when each of us contributes to caring for one another and repairing the world. Guided by the principle of Tikkun Olam, we don’t just talk about change – we show up to create it. Whether it’s through local service, advocacy, or collective giving, social action is woven into the very fabric of who we are.
Tzedakah in Action: We provide financial support to vital community organizations. Since 2011, our congregation has donated over $272,000 to local non-profits.
Direct Community Support: We partner with local shelters and pantries to provide essential resources for those in need across Milwaukee.
Bimah Baskets: Celebrate a simcha or honor a loved one by donating to our Bimah Basket Fund. These donations replace traditional flower arrangements with baskets that symbolize our commitment to the Jewish Community Food Pantry.
Annual Mitzvah Day: Each year, our students and congregants come together for a massive day of service. Annually, we average delivering over 1,500 snack packs, 135 winter gear kits, and hundreds of hygiene and birthday bags to our community partners.
There is no “one way” to participate in social action. From family-friendly volunteer opportunities at the food pantry to serving a meal at the Guest House, there is a place for your hands and your heart here.
Whether you have an hour to spare or a project you’re passionate about leading, we’d love to have you join us. Please feel free to reach out to Social Action chair, Reenie Kavalar at 414-659-9662 or by email.
